Blogging can be hard in itself without thinking about personal vacation time. Every once in a while, even bloggers need to cool off from everything and recharge their mental batteries – one person can only handle that much stress before breaking down.
Regardless of the length or specific plans for the vacation you are planning to take, there are certain things you need to consider beforehand, mainly in regards to your blog. What happens when you leave and come back in a few weeks time? What is the state of your blog and following going to be if you don’t plan in advance? This is an essential question and one of the most notable reasons as to why bloggers rarely go on vacation.
Tips for Keeping Your Blog Alive When You Are On Vacation
-
Article scheduling
One of the things you need to keep in mind is that the few days leading up to your vacation might be very busy when it comes to blogging. This is because you will have to prepare a scheduled article posting, at least a semi-regular one until you come back from vacation.
Communicating your intentions with your audience is an important part of making sure they understand what you are doing and whey you are coming back to work on your blog more actively. Namely, you can prepare a couple of blog posts and different types of content and auto-schedule them to be posted in regular intervals while you are away. This will create a safe bridge for your vacation time, ensuring that your blog stays active albeit without your constant attention.
-
Collaborative blogging
No one is able to sustain a constant blogging schedule without collaborative blogging. You can always ask one of your partner blogs, ghostwriters or even writing services companies to create content in your name. This will allow you to not only have an active blog during your downtime but also promote other creators on your blog.
You will have to plan collaborations for months in advance however, since bloggers and writers around the world have lives of their own and need to find a way to fit you into their schedule. Regardless of this little problem, letting someone else take over and post their content instead for a week or two is not only beneficial to you but them as well.
-
Pre-created content
It’s always a smart idea to lean on pre-created content that you find on the internet. This content can come in form of blog posts, YouTube videos, interesting graphs or charts, or even fan discussions on your blog.
You can select a few pieces of content on the internet before going on vacation and putting them on a scheduled posting order along with your own original content. Combining these elements into a cohesive posting order will allow your fans to not only forgive you for being away but also get some new and interesting content while you are out.
-
Proper follow-up
Putting all of these elements together is easier than it looks once you have selected everything you want to post and know exactly how long your vacation is going to be. One of the benefits of being on vacation is that you can check on your blog every once in a while and see the viewing statistics of each piece of content that was posted in your absence.
Take a break from blogging actively and go on a vacation with your friends or family any time you feel burned out. Your fans will understand you completely if you promise them that you are coming back and that there is something new and exciting coming while you are away, referring to your newly created posting schedule.

Indeed, many students will do part-time jobs during the summer vacation to earn money. To a certain extent, I quite agree with this approach.

There are some instances where your pending blog posts won’t actually fire – that is, publish when they are supposed to. You’ll see a notification in your WordPress post panel that says “missed” and you may have to manually publish them. Not a major problem (unless you don’t check up on it) and you’ll have to do some fixing when you get back. It’s most likely related to a server issue that can be fixed when you get back.
